Sommaire: 4 October 2007, Brussels - Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) made the following statement on the agreement reached at the Six-Party Talks on to the Second-Phase Actions for the implementation of the Joint Statement:
"I learned with great satisfaction that the last round of the Six-Party Talks resulted in an Agreement on the Second-Phase Actions for the implementation of the September 2005 Joint Statement.
I welcome the concrete actions announced in the Agreement and I offer my congratulations to all parties and especially to China as host and facilitator for relentlessly pursuing concrete results on this issue.
The EU is now looking forward to the early implementation of this Agreement with a view to reaching the goal of a verifiable denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula in a peaceful manner.
The EU reiterates its support for the process and will continue to consult with the Six to establish the best means by which it can assist the implementation of the September 2005 Joint Statement."
