
Sommaire: 6 September 2007, Brussels - Javier Solana, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), met today with Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger, the EU representative in the European Union - Russia - US troika charged with facilitating negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina on the future status of Kosovo.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss work done by the troika so far, including its meetings with the parties in Vienna last week and in the run up to the EU Foreign Ministers' meeting in Portugal on 7-8 September 2007, where Mr. Ischinger will be present.
Ambassador Ischinger assured Mr. Solana that no stone would be left unturned in the Troika process which will be concluded by the Contact Group reporting to the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, by 10 December.
Mr. Solana expressed his full support for the work of the troika and in particular for Ambassador Ischinger in facilitating a solution between Belgrade and Pristina.
The Kosovo issue is a key priority for Europe and the EU is determined to remain united on this issue in defence of European interests notably the stability and prosperity and European future of the Balkans. Mr. Solana reiterated that this is a European problem which will need a European solution and that the EU is firmly committed to its responsibilities.
The High Representative said he would closely follow the situation and continue his frequent contacts with the parties with the aim to achieve a lasting and sustainable solution to the question.
