EUHR Solana met AU/UN Special Representative for Darfur Adada

Javier SOLANA, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), met Rodolphe ADADA, the joint African Union-United Nations Special Representative for Darfur, on 23 July 2007.

Mr SOLANA and Mr ADADA reviewed the situation in Darfur and discussed the imminent relaunching of the peace negotiations, the establishment of the United Nations heavy support package for the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) and the prospects for establishing the African Union-United Nations hybrid force to be deployed to Darfur.

Mr SOLANA assured Mr ADADA that the European Union would continue to follow and support the efforts that are under way, at both the political and the security level, to restore peace to Darfur.
