EUHR Solana visits New York, 8-9 January

Javier SOLANA, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), is visiting New York from Monday, 8 January to Tuesday, 9 January. In New York, he will discuss key international issues in bilateral meetings with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and other top diplomats and politicians and he will speak in the UN Security Council debate on the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Mr SOLANA will meet UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday, 8 January, in the afternoon, and will attend a dinner debate with the Council on Foreign Relations in the evening.

Mr SOLANA will take part in the Security Council debate on the Democratic Republic of Congo on Tuesday, 9 January, in the morning. The EU made an important contribution to the DRC's electoral process last year, notably with EURFOR RD Congo, the military operation that supported MONUC, the UN Mission, in ensuring a secure environment during the election period. With the new government in place, the engagement of the EU will continue.
