Sommaire: Haiti: EU Commission allocates €10.2m to restore public finances (15 September 2006: Brussels)
FR - DE
The European Commission has adopted a budgetary support programme worth €10.2 million in favour of reforms in Haiti and to cover the deficit for fiscal 2005-2006. The programme has been set up on the basis of the principle of emergency budgetary support accepted at the International Conference on Haiti held in Brussels on 20 and 21 October 2005.
This budgetary support will boost the efforts already under way and planned by the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Interamerican Development Bank, Canada and Spain to implement the Government's macro-economic and financial programme.
The aim of the programme is to help progress towards the Government's general objectives for better governance, poverty reduction and macro-economic stability.
The chief results to be attained are: contribution to better provision of public services to users; contribution to financing the budget deficit for the current year so as to avoid accumulating further payment arrears and consolidation of public finance management.
The assistance is to be paid out as soon as the programme financing contract has been signed in September 2006, subject to the Government resolutely pursuing its reform programme.
