
Sommaire: EUHR Solana to visit New York and Washington DC (16 January 2006: Brussels)
Javier SOLANA, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), will visit New York and Washington D.C. from Monday 16 until Wednesday 18 January 2006.
On 16 January, Mr SOLANA will visit New York where he will meet with UN Secretary-General Kofi ANNAN as well as several senior UN diplomats. In addition, the High Representative will attend a breakfast discussion hosted by the Council on Foreign Relations.
On 17 January, the High Representative will travel to Washington D.C. where he will meet with Attorney General Alberto GONZALEZ and other senior US officials.
On 18 January, Mr SOLANA will discuss the latest developments with Secretary of State, Condoleezza RICE, and Deputy Secretary of State Robert B. ZOELLICK. The High Representative will also meet with National Security Advisor Stephen HADLEY. In addition, Mr SOLANA is scheduled to meet with Republican Senator Chuck HAGEL and Democratic Senator Hillary CLINTON.
The visit will provide an opportunity to discuss a broad spectrum of issues in the framework of EUUS relations and to exchange views on foreign policy issues of common concern, including Iran, the Middle East, the Western Balkans and Africa, in particular regional developments in Sudan/Darfur and DRC Congo.
