EUHR Solana welcomes UN Peacebuilding Commission

Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, warmly welcomed yesterday's agreement in New York on the setting up of a Peace Building Commission (PBC). With this decision, the United Nations Security Council and the General Assembly have implemented one of the major elements of the UN reform package.

The idea of strengthening the link between early warning, peace keeping and post-conflict reconstruction was part of the EU's submission to the High Level Panel that played an important role in the UN reform process.

The creation of the PBC, which has been one of our primary objectives, is entirely consistent with the comprehensive approach in crisis management pursued by the European Union. We stand ready to fully and actively contribute to the work of the PBC.
