Sommaire: EU Commission presents online Export Helpdesk for Developing Countries (15 December 2005: Rome)

Three key speakers Green Room

"On 7 December 2005, the EC organized jointly with the FAO a presentation on the EC on-line Export Helpdesk for Developing Countries. The Export Helpdesk was launched with the goal of enhancing the economic growth of developing countries by facilitating the access of their exporters to the EU market. For more information, see http://export-help.cec.eu.int

This presentation was organized in the context of the EC-FAO Strategic Partnership and of their planned cooperation on commodities and trade facilitation. It was attended by about 110 participants from both FAO Member Nations and FAO staff. 79 countries were represented, of which 55 were developing countries, which is an important turnout for such a meeting.

The session was co-chaired by Mr Alexander Sarris, Director of FAO's Commodities and Trade Division and Mr Luis Ritto, Head of the EC Delegation to the FAO in Rome. The keynote speaker for the presentation was Matthew Baldwin, Acting Director in the Directorate General for Trade of the European Commission (DG TRADE). He explained in detail the many features of the Export Helpdesk and made an interactive visit on the website in order to explain how to get information. The meeting was followed by a buffet lunch, hosted by the European Commission. In the afternoon, workshops were organized by Ms Marta Moya Diaz, Desk Officer for the Helpdesk in DG TRADE, for participants who wished to learn more about the Export Helpdesk and see practical cases".
