Mr. President,
I have the honour to speak on behalf of the European Union.
The Candidate Countries Croatia* and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia*, the Countries of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidates Albania, and Serbia, as well as Ukraine, align themselves with this declaration.
The European Union has voted in favour of the draft resolution contained in document L.20 Rev 1 on the Special information programme on the question of Palestine of the Department of Public Information of the Secretariat.
The European Union welcomes the new elements introduced in the resolution this year.
In the light of the ongoing peace process, we encourage the Department of Public Information and the parties to reflect upon ways to improve the contribution of the programme to enhance dialogue and understanding between Palestinian and Israeli societies.
The European Union stands ready to work with the DPI and the parties towards the achievement of this goal.
