Sumario: 26 July 2007, Geneva - Explanation of Position by Ms. Catarina Carvalho, Adviser, Permanent Mission of Portugal to the United Nations, on behalf of the European Union, United Nations ECOSOC Resolution on the report of the NGO Committee/Jewish National Fund
The EU strongly believes that every non-governmental organization is entitled to treatment which is in accordance with the ECOSOC Resolution 1996/31 on the Consultative relationship between the United Nations and non-governmental organizations, and follows the standard practice of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations, regardless of the nature of the organization. For the EU this is a matter of principle.
The EU regrets the decision taken by the NGO Committee in May. I would like to draw the attention of the members of ECOSOC to the statement made and supported by the two EU members of NGO Committee at that session.
