Ambassador João Salgueiro, Permanent Representative of Portugal to the United Nations

Welcome to the website of the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union.

As Presidency of the European Union we will be guided by the Trio Presidencies and the Portuguese Presidency Programme in addressing the dynamics of the international agenda and the various issues of global concern in the six months to come.

This will be an intense and quite challenging period for Portugal and the European Union. The Mission of Portugal in New York will assume responsibility for the EU internal coordination, negotiation and representation of EU positions at the United Nations, with a view to advancing the European Union´s role and contribution to the work of the Organization. We see the Presidency primarily as a service to Europe and its citizens. Our aim is to act as a mediator and we are committed to working efficiently and effectively in order to serve Europe and the United Nations in the best way.
