Sumario: EUHR Solana welcomes arrest of war crimes suspect Tolimir (1 June 2007: Brussels)
Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), welcomes the arrest yesterday of Zdravko TOLIMIR, one of the six persons indicted for war crimes by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) still at large.
The High Representative notes that this is the first time that an ICTY-related arrest is made by the Republika Srpska (RS) police. He calls on all the authorities concerned to take decisive action to ensure that the remaining fugitives, notably Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic, are also brought swiftly to justice.
HR Solana recalls that full cooperation with the ICTY is an international obligation which must be met. For its part, the EU is committed to continuing to support the efforts of the ICTY, including through its military force in Bosnia and Herzegovina, EUFOR, and through concrete measures against those who obstruct the work of the Tribunal.
