EU Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner's statement following bomb attacks in Algeria

Benita Ferrero-Waldner, European Commissioner for External Relations and European Nieghbourhood Policy, said following today's bomb attacks in Algeria

"I wish to express my deepest sympathy to the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria and my condolences to the families of those affected by these terrible attacks. This type of act is barbaric and does not achieve any purpose. Algeria can count on Europe for its support in the fight against terrorism, which today is a world wide problem, provided it is in accordance with the rule of law and respect for human rights. I will reiterate this support and pass on my condolences personally to the Algerian authorities at the next EU-Algeria Association Council meeting which takes place on 24 April in Luxembourg."
