Sumario: CSD Event at the UN on the 3rd of May : EU Research in Support of CSD 14 and 15 (New York, 2 May 2006)

"EU Research in Support of CSD 14 and 15"

Side event at the Dag Hammarskjöld Library Auditorium of the United Nations, 16.00-17.30, May 3rd 2006

The EU Research Framework Programme (FP) is a multi-billion euro financing programme of the European Commission that supports collaborative research among international partner organisations. The 7th Research FP will start in early 2007 for a period of 7 years. It will be doted with an approximate budget of 49 billion euro (hence an average of 7 billion euro per year). It will offer grants to thousands of research providers and users throughout the world, including partners from developing countries.

The related event will present a sample of EU running FP projects in the four areas addressed by CSD-14 and -15: Climate Change, Energy, Air Pollution, and Industrial Production. The presentations will highlight the potential of R&D to develop the knowledge necessary to underpin substantial progress in the four areas. It will give concrete examples of new tools, products and services that can accelerate the transition towards new approaches and practices. The accent will be put on the cost effectiveness, affordability and transferability of the research outcomes.

The participation of non European partners to the FP projects will be specifically addressed. Information will be provided on how practically non European partners can access EU funds to participate in the joint research activities of the EU.

The event is organised by the Directorate General for Research of the European Commission, Brussels, Belgium.

Please note that a UN grounds pass is required for access
