EU General Affairs Council Conclusions on Sudan/Darfur (Brussels: 27 February 2006)

The Council adopted the following conclusions:

"The Council noted with concern that the security situation in Darfur remains serious. It called on the parties to respect the ceasefire and urged them to negotiate in Abuja under African Union leadership with urgency and in good faith. It reiterated the European Union's commitment to provide the African Union with continuing support, both political, financial and to the military and policing components of the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS), and expressed its readiness to support AU and UN in a smooth and effective transition to a UN operation, should this be agreed by the Peace and Security Council of the AU."
