
Sumario: EU Commission President Barroso to attend UN World Summit 2005 (9 September 2005: Brussels)
The President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, is scheduled to attend the UN World Summit 2005 in New York on September 14-15, 2005. He will be accompanied by European Commissioner for External Affairs Benita Ferrero-Waldner, and European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid Louis Michel.
President Barroso will attend the opening of the UN Summit and the plenary debate. He will address the Summit meeting on Financing for Development and participate in one of the high-level Round Tables.
Commissioner Michel will attend the round table on "Science, Technology and the MDGs", the Mini Summit on Burundi and a Policy Dialogue on Poverty-Environment Partnership. He will also host a meeting with NGOs and will meet the Heads of all UN Agencies.
Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner will address the UN Summit, and attend the General Assembly. In the margins she will also participate in the Middle East Quartet (20th September) and the Sri Lanka Co Chairs meeting as well as holding a series of bilateral meetings.
Commissioners Michel and Ferrero-Waldner will hold a press conference on the eve of the Summit on Tuesday, September 13th at 3:30 PM in the UN Press Conference Room 226.
Louis Michel will also hold a two hour internet chat on Monday, September 12 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm (EST) on the Millennium Development Goals and how the European Union aims to achieve them (see http://europa.eu.int/comm/chat/michel/index_en.htm).
