EUHR Solana expresses his condolences to the Catholic Church

Javier SOLANA, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), made the following statement today with reference to the death of Pope Jean Paul II:

"I wish to express my deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences to the Catholic Church, and to the Holy See, for the disappearance of His Holiness, John Paul II.

The world - not just people of catholic faith - has lost an unforgettable spiritual leader, an enlightened champion of peace and solidarity for all. We will sorely miss a great European spirit of our times."
