EUHR Solana comments on result of the Irish referendum on Lisbon Treaty

Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), issued the following statement today following the announcement of the result of the Irish referendum on the Lisbon Treaty:

"I am pleased the Lisbon Treaty has been approved by the Irish people. This will allow for a more united and efficient Europe that will be better able to defend the rights and interests of all the citizens and states of the European Union and play a greater role in the world. Today is an important day for Europe."
