New Report: "Europe in the World"

Summary: 24 June 2008, Luxembourg - The European Spatial Planning Observation Network (ESPON) released a new report illustrating accelerating globalisation and the new emerging markets that will have a major impact on Europe.

"Europe in the World," a new report released by the European Spatial Planning Observation Network (ESPON), relies on a series of scientifically based world maps to illustrate the territorial dimension of accelerating globalisation and its impact on Europe, its population, cities and regions. The maps included in the report show structures and international connections of countries and regions of Europe as well as the situation of Europe in the world, particularly in relation to the countries located in its immediate neighbourhood.

Among the questions raised are:

How do global production places and international trade flows affect Europe?
What are the consequences of international economic and demographic growth and migration for Europe?
Where are the European gateway cities for the global linkage of Europe to the rest of the world?
What will be the size and the weight of the influence of the EU in the future?
