EU Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner condemns latest bomb attack in Beirut

Summary: 19 September 2007, Brussels - The European Commissioner for External Relations, Benita Ferrero-Waldner stated on 19 September:

"The Commission is deeply shocked about the latest attack which occurred in Beirut and caused the death of Member of Parliament Mr Antoine Ghanem from the Kataeb together with other innocent people and injured so many. This is a contemptible act that the European Commission condemns in the strongest terms. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims.

These attacks should by no means obstruct the process of electing the new president and the process of reform that lies ahead of Lebanon. On behalf of the European Commission, I wish to express my most sincere condolences and offer my deepest sympathy to the families, and to all Lebanese people."
