EU Presidency Declaration concerning situation in Côte d'Ivoire

Summary: 13 July 2007, Brussels - The European Union reiterates its full support for the Ivorian authorities in continuing their efforts to successfully complete the peace process as established by Ivorians themselves in Ouagadougou.

The European Union calls on the parties who signed that agreement and on all other Ivorian forces to engage resolutely in fully implementing it and in particular to make progress on the crucial issues of identifying the population, DDR (demobilisation, disarmament and reintegration) and holding free, democratic and transparent elections certified by the international community.

The European Union will continue to accompany Côte d'Ivoire on the path towards consolidation of peace and reunification, in particular by participating in the international consultative monitoring body, as proposed by the signatories of the Ouagadougou agreement.

The Candidate Countries Turkey, Croatia* and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia*, the Countries of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidates Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, and the EFTA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Area, as well as Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia align themselves with this declaration.


* Croatia and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia continue to be part of the Stabilisation and Association Process.
