Summary: EUHR Solana welcomes NATO's decision to offer PfP to Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina (29 November 2006: Brussels)
Javier Solana, EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), welcomes NATO's decision today to invite Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina to join the Partnership for Peace programme (PfP):
"I warmly welcome the decision by NATO at its summit in Riga to offer membership in the PfP programme to Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina. This decision acknowledges progress achieved over the past years in the security sector. It will provide an important impetus in the consolidation of the efforts to deepen the necessary modernisation and democratisation of the armed forces. It will also open up new possibilities for these countries to engage in international military co-operation
and to contribute to international peace and stability.
This is another important step in the efforts of the Western Balkan countries to overcome the legacy of the past and to move forward in joining European and Atlantic co-operation."
