EUHR Solana to to visit Middle East 11-13 August 2006

Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), will visit the Middle East from Friday, 11 August to Sunday, 13 August 2006.

Mr Solana is travelling to the region for top-level discussions with leaders on the latest developments in the conflict between Israel and Lebanon and the efforts to bring it to an end. He is working for an end to hostilities and the launching of a process to create the political framework for a lasting solution. This process will begin with the adoption of a UN Security Council Resolution to end the hostilities.

Mr Solana will meet Lebanese leaders in Beirut on Friday and Saturday and Israeli and Palestinian leaders on Sunday.
