EU Presidency Statement on the suicide attack in Tel Aviv

Summary: EU Presidency Statement on the suicide attack in Tel Aviv (Brussels: 17 April 2006)

The Presidency of the European Union strongly condemns today's suicide attack perpetrated in Tel Aviv against innocent civilians which caused the death of at least nine people and injured many others. The Presidency expresses its condolences to the families of the victims.

The EU has repeatedly condemned such criminal terrorist acts which undermine any chances for a peaceful settlement.

The Presidency has taken note of the condemnation of the attack by the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, and strongly urges the Palestinian Government to fully commit to all the principles requested by the International Community, including the renunciation of violence, in order to permit progress towards a peaceful solution.
