EUHR Solana condemns violence and threats against European citizens and interests in Middle East

Summary: EUHR Solana condemns violence and threats against European citizens and interests in Middle East (5 February 2006: Brussels)

Javier SOLANA, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), condemns in the strongest possible terms the violence and threats levelled against European citizens and interests in Syria and Lebanon and other countries in the region.

HR Solana says those responsible at local, political and religious level must prevent any repetition of such acts which can only harm the image of peaceful Islam.

It is now time for everyone to act to calm the situation and to help consolidate the relationship of friendship and mutual respect sought by all the governments of the European Union.

This statement is attributable to Cristina Gallach, Spokesperson of HR Solana.
