EMPLOYMENT

The Council of the EU's Liaison Office in New York is currently looking for an

OFFICE CLERK/ASSISTANT

The main tasks to be performed will involve


- assistance to the front desk staff for the EU delegates' meetings held on our premises (photocopies, distribution of documents, help with the preparation of meeting rooms);

- transportation of documents to and from the United Nations, the relevant US authorities (Office for Foreign Missions), other EU or UN delegations;

- assistance to the administrative/financial officer for protocol formalities (accreditation);

- assistance to the administrative/financial officer as regards the office's inventory of furniture, equipment and technical installations;

- general assistance to the office's staff, management of office supplies and storage facilities, small maintenance tasks.

- driving the Office staff and official visitors as required.


Candidates must have: experience in the above areas, be fluent in English and have a good knowledge of French, a good knowledge of the European Union (EU) and its institutions, good computer skills, sense of initiative and responsibility, ability to work in a team and flexibility as regards working hours. Candidates should have a US driving license and be experienced drivers.

Candidates must be nationals of one of the 27 Member States of the EU and be legal residents in the United States.

Candidates must have a security clearance up to the level of "EU SECRET" or be ready to undergo a security screening in order to obtain such clearance.

INTERNSHIPS

The Council's Liaison Office in New York offers two internship sessions per year, from 1 September to mid-February and from mid-February to 31 July (4 interns for each session).

The program, which is highly selective, offers interns the opportunity to follow the activities of the Council's Liaison Office and the EU Member States in UN bodies such as the Security Council, the General Assembly and its various committees.

The internships are in principle unpaid, however interns are provided with a small allowance for the entire duration of the internship (currently around € 1350,-). Interns will be required to work full-time (35-40 hours per week) during their internship period.

Prospective interns must
• hold a valid passport from one of the 27 EU Member States

• have completed minimum three years of university-level courses preferably in political science, economics, development studies, environment studies, human rights/humanitarian law

• be fluent in English, the main working language of the Delegation; a working knowledge of French is an asset

• provide proof of comprehensive medical and accident insurance that is valid in the USA and Canada (covering hospitalization, surgery, and repatriation, if necessary)

• not have already benefited from previous in-service training or employment (paid or unpaid) with any of the EU institutions or bodies for more than eight weeks.
