EUHR Solana offers condolences to Slovak PM and NATO SG

Summary: EUHR Solana offers condolences to Slovak PM and NATO SG (20 January 2006: Brussels)

Javier SOLANA, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), sent a personal message of condolences to the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Mikulas DZURINDA, and to NATO Secretary General, Jap DE HOOP SCHEFFER, following the tragic air crash on 19 January, which claimed the lives of 42 Slovak aircrew and KFOR soldiers.

"As soon as I heard the news, I wanted to write you a short note to express my shock and sadness at the tragic air crash on 19 January, in which it is reported that forty-two people died.

I understand that the plane and its crew were rotating soldiers after a successful tour of duty in KFOR in Kosovo. As we all know, the end of a tour of duty is when the families and soldiers look forward to being reunited, and so this must be a particularly distressing time for all the families concerned. We express our deep and heartfelt condolences to all of them."
