
Summary: EU Presidency Statement on Somalia (29 November 2005: Brussels)
The European Union (EU) welcomes the resolution endorsed by members of Parliament in Mogadishu on 15 November, in which they express their readiness to engage in dialogue without preconditions. This proposal is especially welcome as it is in line with the Prime Minister's initiative.
The EU wishes to see this proposal for dialogue implemented without delay and stresses that the focus of the above dialogue should be an early, successful and representative session of Parliament. If necessary, the EU stands ready to assist and support the process, including financially.
The Acceding Countries Bulgaria and Romania, the Candidate Countries Turkey and Croatia*, the Countries of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidates Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, EFTA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Area, as well as Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova align themselves with this declaration.
* Croatia continues to be part of the Stabilisation and Association Process.
