EUHR Solana remarks after meeting Lebanese PM Siniora

Summary: EUHR Solana remarks after meeting Lebanese PM Siniora (11 November 2005: Brussels)

On the first day of his visit to the Middle East, Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), had a working lunch in Beirut with Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad SINIORA. On this occasion, he made the following remarks to the media.

"It is my pleasure to be here today again and to be able to honour a promise I made in New York last September to Prime Minister Siniora to visit Lebanon on my next tour of the region.

I carry on behalf of the European Union a message of clear support to the people of Lebanon and to the sovereignty, stability, independence and political and economic reform processes of the country.

I am here also to convey our firm commitment to international law. In this respect, it is important to add that the European Union has always been a defender of multilateralism. Therefore, we attach great importance to full cooperation with the United Nations Security Council and to the application of its resolutions."
