Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), and Olli REHN, European Commissioner for Enlargement, welcome today's decision by the Council of the EU and the European Commission to appoint Mr. Erwan FOUÉRÉ as European Union Special Representative (EUSR) and Head of the European Commission Delegation to the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
Mr. Fouéré is an Irish national, and a career European official, who has served as Head of the European Commission Delegation in Slovenia, South Africa, and Mexico. He will take up his functions in Skopje on 1 November. As EUSR, he replaces Dr. Michael SAHLIN and as Head of Delegation, he will succeed Mr. Donato CHIARINI.
