EU Presidency Statement - ECOSOC: Science and Technology for Development

Summary: July 27, 2005: EUROPEAN UNION EXPLANATION OF POSITION BY THE PERMANENT MISSION OF THE UNITED KINGDOM TO THE UNITED NATIONS, ON BEHALF OF THE EUROPEAN UNION, DURING THE ECOSOC SUBSTANTIVE SESSION 2005 (GENERAL SEGMENT) ON ITEM 13B, COMMISSION ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR DEVELOPMENT (New York)

The European Union has joined the consensus on the resolution on the Commission on Science and Technology for Development.

In so doing, the European Union wishes to confirm that in taking note of the recommendations contained in OP1 we are not endorsing the selection of these recommendations as a subset of those contained in the report of the Commission for Science and Technology for Development on its eighth session as contained in document E/2005/31.

Moreover, the European Union regrets that two of the recommendations in document E/2005/31 have been deleted. Governments have not been invited to review and implement as appropriate the following two recommendations as they have the others;
