Summary: April 26, 2005: Report on the Annual Report on Human Rights in the World 2004 and the EU's policy on the matter (Brussels)
MEPs will hold their annual debate on human rights around the world, based on a report by Simon COVENEY (EPP-ED, IE) for the Foreign Affairs Committee. The wide-ranging report raises concerns about human rights issues in many countries, both in Europe's immediate neighbourhood and further a field. It also addresses a number of wider themes, including human rights and the fight against terrorism, children's rights, the impact of conflict on women and children, abolishing the death penalty, trafficking in humans and human organs, the sex industry and child labour, the role of international business in human rights and impunity and the role of the international criminal court.
