Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), met today with Vlado Buckovski, Prime Minister of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the situation in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and its relations with the EU. The High Representative referred to the ongoing assessment of the application for EU membership, and encouraged Prime Minister Buckovski to focus all his energy on the reform agenda, notably the preparations for the important decentralisation reform.
As far as regional developments were concerned, the High Representative warmly welcomed the recommendation from the European Commission to open negotiations on a Stabilisation and Association Agreement with Serbia and Montenegro -- another sign of progress towards the EU in the region.
