Forthcoming accession of Bulgaria and Romania marked by enormous interest in working for the EU Institutions. First successful contract agents to be employed at the EU Institutions within the coming months.
In view of the accession of Bulgaria and Romania, the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) launched a call for expressions of interest for contract agents (non permanent staff) on 24 February 2005. Following the closing date, registrations are currently being processed in order to establish a database of candidates, Bulgarian and Romanian speakers. From this pool the Institutions will proceed with the personnel selection.
Appointments concern administrative, linguistic and secretarial positions during the pre-enlargement stage, assisting mainly the European Parliament but also other EU Institutions.
As a result of an unprecedented number of applicants of the EPSO web site, the closing date for this exercise had to be extended. In view of the number of about
14 000 on-line registrations, the operation run by EPSO is considered to have been particularly successful.
According to current estimates provided by the European Parliament, it is envisaged that some 100 successful candidates per language may be offered an appointment in the coming months. The staff to be selected will assist the Bulgarian and Romanian parliamentary delegations who will become official observers of the workings of the EP. The other EU Institutions also plan to select some contractual agents' staff towards the end of 2005 and at the beginning of 2006, in order to carry out
pre-accession tasks. In this case the number of posts is estimated as well at about 100 per language.
