EUHR Solana welcomes the results of the referendum in Spain

Summary: February 20, 2005: Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the CFSP, welcomes the results of the referendum in Spain (Brussels)

Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), welcomes the results of the Spanish referendum on the EU Constitution:

"I want to express my deep satisfaction with the results of the Spanish referendum today. The Spanish people have shown an overwhelming support for the EU's Constitution. This is an important step in the ratification process.

I am convinced that the results in Spain will have a positive impact in consultations that will take place in other EU Member States in the coming months.

Its entry into force will make the EU stronger and more efficient. It will help the EU to fully assume its international responsibilities.
