Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner on results of Iraq's election

Summary: February 14, 2005: Benita Ferrero-Waldner on results of Iraq's election (Brussels)

European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, gave this response to the publication of results following Iraq's 30th January election: "The preliminary publication of results from Iraq's first pluralist elections marks another step forward in Iraq's political transition. I congratulate those who will now have the task of building a governing coalition. The Commission looks to those who have been elected to assume the responsibility of governing Iraq in the name of the whole Iraqi people. I trust they will ensure full representation of Iraq's diverse society in the political process, and in particular in the drafting of the Constitution."
