Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), called today to warmly congratulate, Stipe MESIC on his re-election as President of Croatia:
"I wish to extend my warmest congratulations to you on your re-election to the highest political office in Croatia.
With your acts in the last years you have proven how strong your feelings towards Europe are. I am convinced that you will continue playing an important role in supporting Croatia's forthcoming steps towards the European Union at such an historic time for your country.
At the same time, I wish to underscore that these elections represented once more a proof of the maturity of the Croatian democracy. All political forces should now stand united in their efforts to pursue without delay the strategic goal of European integration, for which the national consensus shown so far has to be maintained."
