Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), sent today a message of congratulations to the new President of Ukraine, Victor YUSCHENKO:
"I wish to extend my warmest congratulations to you on your election as President of Ukraine.
The election results give you a strong mandate to meet the great popular expectations of the Ukrainian people. Although regional differences in the vote were significant I have been impressed by the way you and your team have started reaching out to all regions of Ukraine. Your wisdom in working for all Ukrainians and for good relations with all of Ukraine's neighbours will prove to be a sound investment for future prosperity.
Ukraine is a key partner for the European Union. I very much look forward to working closely with you to deepen and intensify our relations."
