EUHR Solana met with Foreign Minister of Georgia

Javier SOLANA, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), met today with Salome ZURABISHVILI, the Georgian Minister for Foreign Affairs.

They discussed recent developments in EU - Georgia relations, including the EUJUST - THEMIS Rule of law Mission as well as the latest developments in Georgia. The positive development with regard to the South Ossetia conflict resolution process was mentioned. Both parties expressed hope that also in Abkhazia progress could be made.

Both noted that the EUJUST - THEMIS Rule of law Mission is well on track. The High Representative underlined that the EU attaches great value to the success of this mission. Ms Zurabishvili also raised the issue of further possible EU contributions in the European Security and Defense Policy (ESDP) field. The work and further analysis on this and other issues will be taken forward in close cooperation with the EU Special Representative, Mr. Talvitie.

High Representative Solana also briefed on the latest developments in Ukraine in view of his participation in recent "round table" negotiations in Kiev.
