
Summary: December 6, 2004: Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the CFSP, on the establishment of a new provisional government in Kosovo (Brussels)
On the occasion of the establishment in Kosovo of new Provisional Institutions of Self-Government (PISG) following the recent Kosovo Assembly elections:
The High Representative would like to urge the new institutions to face the key challenges ahead, particularly the need for speedy progress on standards implementation and for tangible results on the protection of minority communities in Kosovo. Responsibility for progress lies with them.
Mr. Solana also underlined the need for full respect of UN Security Council resolution 1244 and expressed his strong support for the work of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the UN. He expects the new institutions to ensure constructive and effective cooperation with UNMIK and KFOR.
The High Representative recalls that full cooperation with ICTY is a binding commitment on all parties and as such, it remains a policy objective of the EU throughout the region.
