EU Presidency declaration on elections in Namibia

Summary: November 25, 2004: Declaration by the Presidency on behalf of the European Union on Presidential and National Assembly elections in Namibia (Brussels)

The European Union congratulates Namibia with the successful conduct of its Presidential and National Assembly elections held on 15 and 16 November 2004. The elections are considered free and fair, among others along the lines of the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections.

The European Union congratulates the honourable Hifikepunye Pohamba on the occasion.

The Candidate Countries Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey and Croatia*, the Countries of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidates Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, and the EFTA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Area, align themselves with this declaration.

* Croatia continues to be part of the Stabilisation and Association Process.
