Javier SOLANA, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), met yesterday evening with Natwar SINGH, Minister of Foreign Affairs of India.
The working dinner provided an opportunity to deepen the strategic partnership between the European Union and India.
The two leaders addressed various aspects of the current international situation. Their talks focused on Iraq, the Middle East, EU-Asia relations, non-proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction, and effective multilateralism, in particular the importance of the United Nations for the maintenance of international peace and security.
The High Representative and Minister Singh underscored the wish of the European Union and India to further develop their political co-operation, especially in areas such as crisis management and conflict prevention and post-conflict reconstruction.
Both leaders reaffirmed their wish for a successful EU-India Summit, which is expected to take place in the Hague on 14 October 2004.
