EUHR Solana is deeply shocked with Jakarta bombing

Summary: September 9, 2004: Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the CFSP, deeply shocked with Jakarta bombing (Brussels)

Javier Solana, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), made the following comments today in reaction to the car bomb attack in Jakarta, Indonesia outside the Australian Embassy:

"I am deeply shocked by today's bombing in Jakarta. I have sent messages of sympathy and solidarity to the Foreign Ministers of both Indonesia and Australia. My thoughts are with those who have been injured or who have suffered bereavement as a result of this senseless act.

There can be no justification for such an attack. Yet again, the innocent have suffered at the hands of terrorists. I condemn those who were behind it, and hope they will be brought swiftly to justice.

The European Union will continue to work with the rest of the international community to combat the scourge of terrorism."
