Summary: August 5, 2004: Declaration by the Presidency on behalf of the European Union on the occasion of the Accra agreement of 30 July 2004 (Brussels)
The European Union welcomes the political agreement reached in Accra on 30 July 2004 by the protagonists in the Côte d'Ivoire crisis.
It acclaims the initiative of the United Nations Secretary General and the President in office of ECOWAS, as well as the support provided by the many African Heads of State present in Accra.
The European Union would urge all the parties concerned to commit themselves resolutely to full, practical application of the provisions of this agreement within the general framework outlined in the Linas-Marcoussis Agreement.
The Candidate Countries Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia*, the Countries of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidates Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, and the EFTA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Area, align themselves with this declaration.
* Croatia continues to be part of the Stabilisation and Association Process.
