EUHR Solana expresses shock at Madrid terrorist attacks

Summary: March 11, 2004: EU Press Release. Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the CFSP, expresses shock and sadness about the terrorist attacks in Madrid (Brussels)

Statement of Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), on the terrorist attacks this morning in Madrid.

"A terrible criminal act has taken place in Madrid today. My first thoughts go to the victims, their families and friends and to the Spanish Government to which I have just sent a message of condolences and support.

The voice that we want to express from here is one of total condemnation and rejection. Democracy will prevail whereas none of the objectives of the terrorists will.

The citizens of Europe will be together with their Spanish compatriots and together we will continue fighting with determination against terrorism.
