EUHR Solana welcomes the signature by Iran of the IAEA Additional Protocol

Summary: December 18, 2003: Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the CFSP, welcomes the signature by Iran of the IAEA Additional Protocol (Brussels)

Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), made the following comments after the signature today by Iran of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Additional Protocol:

"I welcome the signature today by Iran of the IAEA Additional Protocol as an important step in building international confidence about the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program. Full continuous implementation of this protocol as well as compliance with IAEA Board of Governors' Resolution are crucial in this respect.

I also call on all countries who have not yet signed the Additional Protocol to do so as soon as possible.

I look forward to discussing the nuclear and other important issues with Iranian authorities during my planned trip to Teheran in January."
