EUHR Solana on the parliamentary elections in Croatia

Summary: November 24, 2003: Statement by Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for CFSP, on the parliamentary elections in Croatia (Brussels)

Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), made the following comments on the parliamentary elections held in Croatia yesterday:

"I am pleased that - according to the first reports - the Croatian parliamentary elections were held in a fair and orderly manner. This confirms the progress made by Croatia over the past years on the path towards European standards.

I am confident that Croatia will continue along this path when a new government is formed. I encourage all parties that will participate in the negotiations on the new executive to keep European values and standards in mind. It is of great importance that Croatia has a government that is committed to fulfilling the country's international obligations and to promoting economic and political reforms. It is only on this basis that continued significant progress towards integration into the EU will be possible."
