EUHR Solana condemns the latest terrorist attacks in Istanbul

Summary: November 20, 2003: Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the CFSP, condemns the latest terrorist attacks in Istanbul (Brussels)

Javier Solana, EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, condemned and expressed outrage at the new bomb attacks perpetrated this morning in Istanbul that killed several innocents and injured many more, including at the British consulate. He has sent messages of condolences to the Turkish and British governments.

"I condemn with the utmost vigour the new terrorist attacks in Istanbul that hit a country that is very close to us and, in that country, the representation of a Member State of the European Union. These are outrageous attacks aimed at spreading terror.

I have expressed my sympathy and solidarity to the Turkish and the British governments and extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.

These attacks only underscore the need for continued international co-operation in the multifaceted fight against terrorism. The European Union remains determined to play its part in that fight, in close co-operation with its partners, including Turkey."
