EU Presidency declaration on the terrorist attacks of 20th November in Istanbul

Summary: November 20, 2003: Declaration by the Presidency on behalf of the European Union concerning the terrorist attacks of the 20th November in Istanbul (Brussels)

The European Union strongly condemns the heinous acts of terrorism that today have struck the UK Consulate-General and HSBC's offices in Istanbul, bringing death and suffering to hundreds. The European Union sends its sincerest condolences to the relatives and friends of the victims and to the Turkish people.

There can be no justification for such atrocious acts. The European Union offers its full support to Turkey, a close partner, at this difficult time. Today's events demonstrate once again the need for the International Community to work together to combat terrorism in all its forms.
