Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), commented on the occasion of the death of Alija IZETBEGOVIC, former member of the State Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina:
"Mr Izetbegovic was a very courageous leader for his people. Under difficult circumstances in the Balkans, he played an important role in ending the war in his country. His contribution was decisive to prepare the ground for a peaceful and democratic Bosnia and Herzegovina".
"I had the opportunity to work closely with him in the past. I knew how committed he was to his country's successful future. His death will be greatly felt and I offer my deepest sympathy to his family and to the Bosnian people".
